Bet You Can't Make Just One and a Giveaway

 

I have wanted one of these since Manda made her first one. Every time she made a bunch though, they sold out immediately. I love what people do with selvages (or is it selvedges?). One woman even has a whole blog devoted to them. So, when Manda posted that the pattern was going to be in Quiltmaker magazine, I ran right out... and found that it was in the previous issue. I decided to order the back issue and 4 TIMES the web site crashed my request. Undaunted, I waited a few days and tried again...and then I waited over a month for the magazine to arrive.

It arrived on Monday and I have spent every spare second making these. They are truly addictive. Don't let me near your fabric collection or you may find your selvages mysteriously missing. They make a great gift for a sewer. I stuffed mine with cotton stuffing from Near Sea Naturals

In fact, if you would like a selvage pin cushion, leave a comment on this post by midnight Sunday and I will pick a name and send one out to you. Then I have a reason to make another one.

Many thanks to Manda for dreaming up this clever idea. Did anybody see the "Trouble With Tribbles" episode of Star Trek? I think these pin cushions may multiply like that here at Hollyhocks. What can't you stop making?

 Busy weekend here...Exhausted babies...

 

See, I told you.

 Don't ask, it's his transitional object (per the book "Baby 411") and he insists on sleeping like that. I try not to stress out about it, but yikes!!!

We also had babies in new outfits from their Godmother/Aunt Kathi...

 

and new chalkware dogs for my collection...

 

 

and I am doggone tired.

 

I also planted my lavender and I have my fingers crossed that it will survive. We could still get some cold nights...and days... here.

 

I think I may see actual currant buds on my currant plants this year. Two years ago I pruned them...I guess that's a no-no.

Happy Easter!

 

I hope this finds you happy, healthy and enjoying one of the 2 happiest days of the year. I glazed the ham, baked the carrot cake, made the cream cheese icing and...ordered the rest of the meal from the catering department of our wonderful grocery store, Wegmans. It was delicious. I was calm and a good time was had by all. The babies cooed and played, we chatted and ate, and if you look in the bottom right hand corner of the photo, we lit a memorial candle so we could feel like my stepdad was truly with us.

 

 

We served only white food to the babies..seriously...applesauce and oatmeal at noon.

 

 

We brought the squash out once jammies were safely in place.

I am almost completely well again, thank goodness. The babies are home with me this week and I am looking forward to strollering all over town. The twins' Godmother is visiting from San Diego on Weds. so we have a lot to look forward to (That grammar bugs me, but it sounds weird the right way)

As I look toward getting a teeny bit organized this week, do you have any advice? I bought an extra garbage can and contractor bags...Since the twins moved in, we have run out of room...and yes, I am donating tons. It's time to say goodbye to the size 6. Unless I have occasion to wage a long hunger strike, I won't be wearing that size again.

It's All Fun and Games Until Mom Gets Sick

 

Nothing brings a harried but happy household to a screeching halt like a sick mama! It started 2 weeks ago as a cold, turned into a fever last Friday and Monday became a severe sinus infection. If I had taken it seriously and seen a Dr. before Monday, I probably wouldn't be in this pickle, but who thinks a little cold will land you on a 10 day course of an antibiotic whose side effects make it only slightly better than the illness?

 So, with a throat too raw to eat much, I am subsisting on bananas and yogurt. Before you embark upon this particular diet, let me tell you that I have only lost 2 stinking pounds!!! The only joys in the past dim week have been 2 cuddly babies who have thus far been spared, a dog who curls up on your feet when you're sick and...new, fun fabric. I made a present for a friend's housewarming which I'll show you next time, but these fabrics are purely for fun...

 

It's called "Perfect Pattern" and it is pretty perfect. The gingham is for Spring when I want everything to be made of gingham.

 

30s fabrics are like candy to me, as you know...

 

Drawstring bags for the twins' extra outfits perhaps?

 

Something for Rory-pie but I'm not sure what yet.

   

Definitely a purse or tote, probably for someone's birthday.

So, tell me how you lived through being sick and taking care of children...and, what do you do to stay healthy? This can never happen again!!!! This was supposed to be my closet cleaning week.
