When little Joe was very little, he would look up from his stroller seat and marvel at the trees. He would hear the leaves rustling and then watch the movement and smile.
When he was 8 months old, he started to laugh at the trees. It was spring here and everything was green. He giggled at green.
Last autumn Joe and Rory were playing in the grass with daddy when leaves started to fall from the trees. Both of the twins were scared. Once we thought about it, we realized that lots of things falling from the sky, hitting you or close to you would be scary if you had never seen it before.
Recently, we were going on a family drive and Joe yelled excitedly from the back seat "Mama, tree!!!!" I looked up and saw a huge tree. Beautiful...but...a ...tree. We are blessed to have lots of them where we live.
Joe then announced EVERY tree we passed. "Mama, tree!" "tree!" "tree"...
We were going for a long drive...through a wooded area...so I was picturing the 10,000th "Mama, tree!" of the day...
When I realized... for Joe today was the day when he finally had a name for this great and wonderful thing he had appreciated for almost as long as he had been alive. It was a TREE.
Moments like these, and there are many, are why I wanted children. So many days I look up and marvel at the perfect beauty that finally has a name...Joe and Aurora.
They are 2 now...
2 years in the blink of an eye.
